By constructing dikes in the north of the Netherlands, the fishermen and merchant ‘terp’ villages (villages built on elevated land, protected from the sea) were cut off from the sea. The direct relation with the water and the wad disappeared, and the wad coast became the backside of the Dutch coast, losing its dynamics. The design aims at restoring the direct relation with the area outside the dikes with the help of a walk marked by tiled objects.
The walk has no physical appearance, but it is marked by objects, so called wadfurniture. The walk is only passable at low tide: when the tide comes in, the objects will slowly disappear under water. The objects are powered by the existing windmills. In this way the seat at the fishing spot is heated and the freshly caught cockles can be cooked there.
